Everybody is always looking for that perfect tan. I know I’m guilty of this myself, but hearing about others close to me who have had skin cancer scares has made me make smarter decisions (no more indoor tanning booths for me). Did you know that while the cancer rates in general have declined, fatalities from skin cancer continues to rise? That’s just insane to me, especially since skin cancer is so preventable. Sunscreen is affordable and there are a wide variety of other products (makeup, moisturizers, clothes, etc) that offer UV protection as well.
I was shown this Killer Sunshine infographic and it showed that in a survey, 71% of 18-29 year olds believed that tanning was healthy. I’m sure those that think tanning is healthy know not to overdo it, right? Not quite. Get this… melanoma happens to be the most common form of cancer for those aged 25-29. Coincidence? Nope. People often lay out in the sun for too long, and without proper sunscreen.
Check out the infographic for more information, you’ll be surprised at some of these facts! (Thanks Jen R.!)
