Tiny Updates, how to add a FavIcon
Unfortunately I didn’t really “blog” this week. I tried to a couple of times but the entries just ended up being depressing to tell you the truth. I’ve just been having the Virginia Tech shooting on my mind, and I wrote a blog about it, but I changed my mind and decided not to publish it because I think the media is covering it enough, and I don’t want to add to it.
My heart goes out to all of those who have lost a loved one in the VTech shooting. ![]()
That being said, I’ve been busy with school and used my spare time to make minor tweaks to my site… I doubt many have noticed, but I have just added a FavIcon to my site! (Look at my URL addy, a FavIcon is the little image that is shown right before the “http://”).
It’s really easy to add a FavIcon to your website, let me briefly explain it here~
- Create a 16×16 or 32×32 image that you would like to use as your icon.
- Go to html-kit.com/favicon and upload your image there!
- Follow the directions given, basically download the favicon.ico file they have created for you and upload that file to your server’s directory (where your index.html file is).
- And finally, add the following code between your index.html <head> </head> tags:
<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico” >
Then you’re done! Just check out your site (you might need to refresh your page) and see your icon! :happy: I plan on sharing info that I’ve learned, like the favicon thing, in my Extras section. It’ll basically include some useful information for webmasters/designers. And I’ll go on and add non-internet information on there as well… but that’ll be much, much later.
I guess that’s it for now, going to go eat! I’m hungry lol.. bye~

Hi Maria…thanks for joining my paltry little neighborhood at BlogCatalog
Good idea with the favicon. It seems like such a minor thing to add but it really does make it easier to identify sites in your bookmarks, especially if you haven’t visited them in a while =)
Well, all I can say is.. Cheer up! It is only a moment before you become happier again!
Finally you got your own favicon. Cool! hehe
Hi Maria! Here’s that thingy you asked me about for making the little links beneath posts
